How to Add Your DynTube Roku Feed to a Roku Channel
DynTube generates a Roku-compatible JSON feed for the published videos in one of your projects. Use that feed as the catalogue source in a Roku channel you build and submit with Roku's current developer tooling.
Before You Begin
You'll need:
- A DynTube plan that includes TV app feeds — the Roku feed pages are entitlement-gated, and creating a feed without the entitlement is refused
- An account permission that allows managing the account, which is what reveals the Add Roku Feed action
- A project that already contains published videos — a feed over a project with no published video does not render
- A Roku developer account, and a channel application you build with Roku's current developer tooling
Create Your Roku Feed in DynTube
- Log in to your DynTube dashboard.
- In the sidebar, open More tools → Roku. The page is /feeds/roku.
- Click Add Roku Feed (/feeds/roku/add).
- Title — required. This is the feed title shown in channel metadata.
- Select Project — required. Search for the project by name and select it; the videos in that project are the videos in the feed.
- Feed Genres — required for Roku. Select at least one genre; the genres you pick are applied to every item in the feed.
- Provider Name — required for Roku.
- Sort Order — optional. Newest first, oldest first, name A–Z or name Z–A. Newest first is the default.
- Click Create Feed.
Get Your DynTube Roku Feed URL
- Return to More tools → Roku (/feeds/roku).
- Find your feed in the list — the Feed URL is shown on the row.
- Use Copy URL from the row menu to copy it, or Open Feed to request it in a new tab.
The URL is built from the feed's key, not from the feed's internal id:
https://api.dyntube.com/v1/feeds/roku/<YOUR_FEED_KEY>Paste that URL into your Roku channel wherever the channel is configured to read its catalogue feed.
What the Feed Contains
- Only videos whose status is Published, in the single project selected on the feed
- Items ordered by the feed's Sort Order, capped at 1000 items
- Per item: the video key as the id, title, description as the short description, thumbnail, tags, release date, duration in seconds, and one video source URL
- The genres you selected on the feed, applied to every item
- Your Provider Name, and a last-updated timestamp set to the moment the feed was requested
- A feed language value of en — Roku feed language is emitted as a constant and is not taken from your account or project settings
Feed Updates
The feed is generated from your current data each time it is requested, so a change you make in DynTube is eligible to appear in the next successfully rendered feed response. Whether it appears there still depends on processing and publication state, and on any caching in front of the feed. It is not in your channel until the channel fetches the feed again.
- Adding, removing or editing videos changes what the next feed request returns
- Your channel shows the change at its next successful feed fetch — the channel and the platform control that schedule, not DynTube
- CDN, proxy or platform-side caching between your channel and the feed can delay the change further
- DynTube never pushes an update to a channel; there is no synchronisation callback
Validate Your Feed
Request the feed URL yourself before wiring it into a channel — use Open Feed from the row menu, a browser tab, or a command line request. A working feed returns JSON containing your provider name and one entry per published video.
curl -i https://api.dyntube.com/v1/feeds/roku/<YOUR_FEED_KEY>The feed responds with 400 Bad Request when the feed key is unknown and when the selected project has no published videos. Those two cases are deliberately indistinguishable from outside.
Troubleshooting
Feed returns 400, or videos are missing
- Check that the feed key in the URL matches the one shown on the feed row — copy it rather than typing it
- Check that the project selected on the feed actually contains videos whose status is Published; drafts and unpublished videos are excluded
- Videos restricted to app-only playback are excluded from feeds when app-only scoping is enabled
- Confirm the feed URL is requested from the DynTube API host that issued it; a feed is not served to a request for a different brand's host
Wrong videos in the feed
- A feed follows exactly one project. Open the feed's Edit page to change the project or the sort order
- Genres and Provider Name are feed-level values, not per-video values — editing them changes every item at once
Feed is correct but the channel is stale
- Request the feed URL directly and confirm the change is present in the response
- If it is present, the delay is on the channel or platform side — wait for the next successful fetch, or use whatever refresh control your channel tooling provides
