Screen recording protection
Screen recording protection that travels with the video
Protection that lives on your web page can be switched off by the viewer. When viewers watch in the Ajar browser, your video is protected where it actually plays: it keeps protected videos out of screen recordings and screenshots on supported devices, and hides, pauses and mutes them the moment a recording starts.
One protected lesson, three ways of watching it
Illustration of designed behaviour, not a live test. Ajar is not yet publicly released.
The problem
Why can’t a web page stop someone recording your video?
A web page cannot see the screen recorder running beside it. Anything it does to discourage capture runs on the viewer’s machine, under the viewer’s control, and stops the moment they open developer tools or another app.
Without control
Protection inside the page
Scripts, overlays and right-click blocks run in a browser the viewer owns. They discourage casual saving and do nothing about a recorder.
- The page has no view of other apps, so it cannot tell when a recorder starts.
- Every protection is a script the viewer can switch off.
- Per-play DRM licensing turns each view into a bill, and its coverage still depends on the viewer’s browser and device.
- Any browser can play the stream, so a copied link or embed plays anywhere.
On your own terms
Protection where the video plays
In the Ajar browser, protection works outside the page, where a viewer cannot switch it off.
- Protected playback is kept out of the capture paths the operating system lets the app control.
- A detected recording covers, pauses and mutes protected video, not the whole browser.
- No per-play DRM licence server sits in the playback path.
- An account can require Ajar, so ordinary browsers are refused.
The basics
What is screen recording protection, and what can it realistically do?
Screen recording protection reduces unauthorised use of video by keeping protected playback out of screenshots and screen recordings where the operating system allows it, and by reacting when a recording is detected. It raises the effort of copying a lesson or a premium video. It does not prevent recording by a camera pointed at a screen.
Your viewers simply watch in Ajar, a full web browser they can use for everything else too. Ajar does the protecting on each device, so there is nothing for you to build and nothing for viewers to configure.
Protection is scoped. The browser applies its safeguards only to DynTube’s signed list of protected playback domains, including a protected player embedded in an ordinary website. Every other site stays as recordable as it is in any browser, so people can use the same browser for the rest of their day.
What you get
What does Ajar do for your videos?
Your viewers watch as normal. The browser quietly protects your videos while they play.
Recordings come out without your video
Protected videos are kept out of screen recordings and screenshots on supported devices, so a capture does not carry your lesson with it.
Playback stops when a recorder starts
If a recording starts, the video is hidden, paused and muted straight away. You choose how strict the reaction is.
Copied links do not play elsewhere
Turn on Ajar-only playback and your videos will not play in Chrome, Safari or Firefox, even from a shared link.
Leaks point back to the viewer
Add a viewer watermark and any copy that does get made shows who it came from. Dynamic watermarking and video encryption are entitled on Pro and Enterprise plans by default.
Every other site works normally
Only your protected videos are protected. Viewers can use the same browser for the rest of their day.
Every major device
Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iPhone and iPad, with nothing for you or your viewers to configure.
Account setting
Can you make your videos play only in Ajar?
Yes, as a per-account arrangement. When Ajar-only playback is on, the server refuses to deliver your videos to ordinary browsers, so a copied embed or link does not play in Chrome, Safari or Firefox.
Refused before delivery
The check happens on DynTube’s servers and at the edge, not in the player, so there is no script to switch off. Viewer sign-in, domain and country rules still apply on top.
Recorded video and live
The setting covers recorded video and live streams, including links issued before it was switched on once caches refresh.
Your own apps, through the SDK
Apps built with DynTube’s protection SDK can be registered so they keep playing. An app without the SDK is treated like any other unapproved client.
How Ajar works
Installations you can revoke
Ajar installations are admitted automatically, and you can revoke one from the dashboard. A revoked installation is not quietly re-admitted.
The workflow
How do you roll out screen recording protection?
Four steps, starting with a conversation about your audience and devices.
- 01
Talk to us about your audience
- 02
Protect the right projects
- 03
Point viewers at Ajar
- 04
Test on your audience’s devices
Questions
Screen recording protection questions
Direct answers, each within what the product commits to.
Does screen recording protection catch every recording?
No. Protection reduces unauthorised use and raises the effort of copying, but it does not prevent recording by a camera pointed at a screen, a modified client, or a capture path the operating system does not report. A viewer watermark makes a copy that does get made traceable to its session.
What is Ajar?
Ajar is a full web browser for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. When it plays DynTube-protected video, that video gets screen recording protection; every other website works as normal. Ajar is not available for download yet; talk to us if you want to plan a rollout.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes. On iPhone and iPad, protected video is hidden and paused while the screen is being recorded or mirrored. iOS does not let an app list recorder apps, so protection there reacts to the recording itself.
How is this different from DRM?
Per-play DRM is licensed and billed by usage, and its coverage depends on the viewer’s browser and device. Protection in Ajar uses no per-play DRM licence server in the playback path. A project uses one protection mode, so DRM and HLS AES are not enabled at the same time; if a rights holder specifies DRM, that settles it.
Is it included on my plan?
Ajar-only playback is arranged per account rather than switched on by a plan tier, so confirm entitlement with us first. Dynamic watermarking and video encryption are entitled on Pro and Enterprise plans by default.
Will the browser block screenshots of other websites?
No. Safeguards apply only to DynTube’s signed list of protected playback domains, including a protected player embedded in another site. Ordinary websites stay as recordable as they are in any other browser.
