Comparison
The JW Player alternative for business video, not ad inventory
JWP is built for publishers and streaming services that turn an audience into advertising and subscription revenue, and it is priced through a sales conversation. DynTube is built for businesses that need protected, branded video inside their own pages — priced publicly, from USD 24 a month, with API access on every plan. Two different businesses, and the right answer follows from which one is yours.
What decides it
Four things to compare before you request a JWP quote
The first question does most of the work — if advertising is your revenue model, stop reading and talk to JWP.
- How the video makes money
- A platform built for ad monetisation carries ad servers, inventory management and yield tooling. That is a whole product, not a setting.
- On DynTube — DynTube does not market advertising capability. It is bought to host, protect and deliver video that supports a business — courses, products, support, internal communication — not to fill ad breaks.
- Where the audience is
- Publishers need apps, feeds and recommendations to keep viewers moving through a catalogue. Businesses need one video to play reliably on one page.
- On DynTube — Built for embedding: adaptive HLS playback inside your own layout, with no adjacent recommendations pulling viewers away from your page.
- How you want to buy
- A quoted platform agreement and a published self-service plan lead to very different timelines and approvals.
- On DynTube — Every plan price, storage figure and delivery figure is published, signup is self-service, and the amount is shown again at checkout.
- What protection you need on the entry plan
- For many publishers, protection is an enterprise line item. For a business selling access to a course library, it is the product.
- On DynTube — Encrypted on-demand delivery on every plan, playback keys restricted to your origin allowlist, signed expiring private links and dynamic watermarking.
Side by side
What JWP publishes, and what each platform is for
The JWP row is what its official pricing route presents; DynTube rows come from our live plan catalogue. Where a price is not published, this page says so rather than guessing.
| Criterion | Criterion | JWP | DynTube |
|---|---|---|---|
| How pricing works | — | Custom quote. The pricing route presents a contact-sales path for the platform rather than a self-service price list.Plan details | Published plans: Starter USD 24, Plus USD 50 and Pro USD 100 per month, billed monthly, with storage and delivery listed on each plan. |
| What the plan is sized on | — | Platform scope, volume and monetisation modules are set in the agreement.Plan details | 300 GB storage with 1 TB monthly delivery, 1 TB with 2 TB, and 2 TB with 4 TB, plus USD 23 per terabyte stored and USD 20 per terabyte delivered in the published custom estimator. |
| Who it is built for | — | Publishers, media companies and streaming services running audience-scale catalogues and monetisation.Plan details | Businesses, educators and product teams publishing video into pages they already run, from a first upload to a multi-terabyte library. |
| Monetisation | — | Advertising and subscription monetisation are central to the platform.Plan details | No advertising product. Access is controlled instead of monetised at the player: origin allowlists, signed private links and encrypted delivery. |
| OTT apps and recommendations | — | Apps, content feeds and recommendation capability are part of the platform.Plan details | No OTT app product and no recommendation engine. Embeds and playlists inside your own pages are the delivery model. |
| Protecting gated video | — | Studio-grade protection options exist within the platform; scope follows the agreement.Plan details | Encrypted on-demand delivery on every plan, origin-restricted playback keys, signed expiring private links you can rotate or revoke, and dynamic watermarking. |
| API and automation | — | A documented platform API is available; access follows the agreement.Plan details | REST API access on every published plan, including the entry band: resumable upload sessions, videos, projects, captions, private links, webhook endpoints with delivery retries, and nine analytics report endpoints. |
JWP does not publish a self-service price, so no figure is printed here and none should be inferred. Ask JWP for a quote and compare it against the DynTube figures above, which come from our live plan catalogue.
Where another platform may fit better
- If advertising revenue is how your video business works, JWP is the correct purchase. DynTube has no advertising product and this page will not pretend the two overlap.
- OTT apps, content feeds and recommendations are genuine JWP capabilities with no DynTube equivalent. A streaming service needs them.
- DynTube includes aggregate engagement reports and optional customer-supplied user IDs on Plus and larger plans, but it does not provide the advertising yield and inventory analytics of a publisher monetisation suite.
Worked example
What a business library actually costs here
Price a realistic library on DynTube first, then put that concrete total beside the JWP quote for the same usage and contract term.
Take a support-and-training library of around 400 hours, delivering roughly three terabytes a month to staff and customers. Stored at typical delivery bitrates that lands near two terabytes, so the published Pro plan at USD 100 a month covers the storage and four terabytes of delivery outright. Push delivery to eight terabytes a month and the published estimator calculates two terabytes stored at USD 23 as 46, plus eight terabytes delivered at USD 20 as 160, giving USD 206 a month.
- Storage is estimated from running time at the bitrate you deliver, not from the size of your source files.
- Delivery is monthly views multiplied by average minutes watched; the bandwidth calculator does the arithmetic.
- Every figure above is on the pricing page, so the total is reproducible without a conversation.
- When a quote arrives from a platform vendor, multiply it over the full term and strip out the advertising and OTT modules you would not use before comparing.
- If you cannot name the monetisation capability you would use in the first six months, you are probably buying a publisher platform to do a hosting job.
Fit
Choosing between JWP and DynTube
Stated in both directions, because the revenue model decides it.
Choose DynTube — gated business video
Course libraries, members areas, client portals and internal training where playback must be encrypted, restricted to your domains and shareable only through links you can expire.
Choose DynTube — budget without a discovery call
Because the bands and the per-terabyte rates are on the pricing page, a finance owner can approve the number before anyone books a meeting.
Choose DynTube — automation from the first band
A single developer can wire uploads, publishing and reporting into an existing codebase without waiting for a tier that unlocks the API.
Choose JWP — publisher and OTT monetisation
If your video earns advertising or subscription revenue at audience scale, and you need apps, feeds and recommendations, JWP is built for that and DynTube is not a substitute.
Migration
Moving business video off a publisher platform
Usually a narrowing exercise: keep what earns, move what supports.
- 01
1. Split monetised video from business video
- 02
2. Check the term before the technology
- 03
3. Export sources, captions and metadata
- 04
4. Rebuild access as an allowlist
- 05
5. Script the move, prove one page
Common questions
Questions publishers and business teams ask
Is DynTube a good alternative to JW Player?
For business video on your own pages, yes: published plans from USD 24 a month, encrypted delivery, origin-restricted playback keys, signed expiring links, dynamic watermarking and REST API access on every plan. For a publisher or streaming service monetising an audience through advertising, no — JWP is built for that and DynTube has no advertising product.
How much does JWP cost compared with DynTube?
JWP prices its platform through a sales conversation, so there is no official figure to set against ours and inventing one would be dishonest. DynTube publishes USD 24, USD 50 and USD 100 a month for the three bands, while the custom estimator uses USD 23 per terabyte stored plus USD 20 per terabyte delivered. Get a quote, multiply it across the term, remove the monetisation modules you would not use, and compare what is left.
Can DynTube insert advertising into my videos?
No, and you should not plan around it. DynTube is not sold as an advertising platform and nothing here should be read as an ad-serving capability. If advertising revenue is central to your video business, choose a platform built for it.
Can DynTube power an OTT app or a recommendation feed?
No. There is no OTT app product and no recommendation engine. Delivery is by embed and playlist into pages you build, which is exactly right for business video and wrong for a streaming service catalogue.
What protection comes with the entry plan?
Encrypted on-demand delivery, playback keys issued only to the origins on your allowlist, signed private links you can expire, rotate or revoke, dynamic watermarking and REST API access. Populate the allowlist and leave the account-level exemptions off, and an embed copied to another site stops playing in a browser.
How quickly can I publish a first video?
Within an afternoon. Create an account, upload a file, let it transcode, and paste the snippet into the page. Nobody has to qualify you first, and a developer can drive the same sequence from the API on the cheapest band.
Settle the revenue question, then start
If advertising is not how your video earns its keep, you are buying hosting — and you can size it, price it and start it in the next ten minutes.
