Video Bandwidth
Bandwidth is the data delivered when viewers stream your published video or live output. It is different from storage: storage measures the media kept in your account, while bandwidth grows as that media is delivered to viewers.
What determines bandwidth usage?
The main inputs are watch time, the bitrate selected during playback, and the number of viewers. DynTube's adaptive HLS player can move between the renditions created for a video as network conditions and device capability change. The exact rendition set depends on the source and project processing configuration, so two videos of the same duration can deliver different amounts of data.
A viewer who watches part of a video normally transfers less data than someone who completes it. A high-bitrate stream normally transfers more than a lower-bitrate stream over the same watch time. Seeking, replaying, live viewing, and CDN or browser caching can also affect delivery, so a simple play count is not an exact bandwidth measurement.
How can I estimate monthly delivery?
Start with expected monthly watch hours and a realistic average delivered bitrate. Convert the bitrate to data per hour, then multiply by watch hours. For a safer planning range, calculate a typical case and a busier case rather than relying on one exact number.
- Estimate total viewer watch hours for the month.
- Use an average bitrate that reflects the devices and connections in your audience.
- Include launches, events, or course cohorts that may create traffic peaks.
- Compare the estimate with the current plan allowance or bandwidth pricing shown by DynTube.
How do I check the usage that applies to my account?
Use the usage and billing information available in your DynTube account for current plan consumption. If a value is delayed, unclear, or missing, contact support with the account, period, and project you want reviewed. Usage notifications may also help you respond before a sustained traffic increase reaches your allowance.
How can I manage delivery without hurting playback?
- Upload an appropriate source resolution and bitrate for the way the video will be viewed.
- Keep adaptive renditions enabled where viewers use varied devices or connections.
- Choose project processing settings that avoid renditions your audience does not need.
- Use the bandwidth calculator and current pricing information when planning a campaign or large event.
- Review unexpected traffic together with embed-domain and signed-link controls for private content.
Uploading a 1080p source prevents the processing workflow from inventing true 4K detail, but resolution alone does not determine delivery size. Bitrate, codec, watch time, and the rendition actually selected all matter. The best target is an efficient adaptive ladder, not simply the lowest possible resolution.
