How to Add Login Protection to Videos
Login protection makes a video require a signed-in subscriber before it will play. You turn it on with the Authentication switch, on a single video or as a project-wide default.
Before You Start
- Your plan must include Subscriptions — the Authentication card is only rendered when the plan carries that feature
- You need the Manage Videos permission to change the switch; without it the control is disabled
- To grant access as well as require it, you also need a plan, which is managed under Monetization → Plans & Payments (/subscriptions/plans) and needs the Manage Subscriptions permission
- Your viewers must exist as Subscribers (/subscriptions/subscribers) — this is the modern subscriber identity, not a legacy member record
Security settings change where and how viewers can play your videos. Turn this on for one video first and confirm the result before applying it to a whole project.
Protect a Single Video
- Log in to your DynTube dashboard.
- Open Video Library (/projects) and open the video you want to protect.
- Go to the Options tab.
- Find the Authentication card and turn on Require Member login.
- The change saves as soon as you toggle it — there is no separate save button on this card. Wait for the confirmation before leaving the page.
If the Authentication card is not on the Options tab, your plan does not include Subscriptions. If the switch is visible but will not move, you do not have the Manage Videos permission.
Protect a Whole Project
A project carries default video options, including the same Authentication switch.
- Open Video Library (/projects) and edit the project (/projects/edit/<PROJECT_ID>).
- Go to the Video Options tab.
- Turn on Require Member login in the Authentication card.
- Click Save Changes.
Pair Login with Plan Access
These are two separate mechanisms and both have to be configured:
| Question | Answered by | Where you set it |
|---|---|---|
| Must the viewer be signed in? | The Authentication switch on the video or project | Options tab / project Video Options tab |
| Which signed-in viewers may watch it? | The access scope of your plans — playback derives the plan keys required for that video and checks the viewer's active plans | Monetization → Plans & Payments (/subscriptions/plans) |
| Who can sign in at all? | Your Subscribers | Monetization → Subscribers (/subscriptions/subscribers) |
So the working configuration is: turn on the Authentication switch, and add the video to a plan's access scope. A signed-in subscriber holding an active plan that covers the video is authorised; a signed-in subscriber with no covering plan is not.
Verify It — Required
This article does not assert how your account behaves. Run both checks yourself, and treat the feature as unconfigured until both pass:
- Anonymous is denied: open the video's embed or page in a private/incognito window, signed out, and confirm the video does NOT play.
- Authenticated is allowed: sign in as a subscriber who holds an active plan whose access scope covers that video, and confirm the video DOES play.
- If check 1 plays, the switch did not take effect — reopen the Options tab and confirm it is still on.
- If check 2 is refused, the viewer is authenticated but not entitled — confirm the video is in the plan's access scope, and that the subscriber's plan is active.
Troubleshooting
The Authentication card is missing
The Subscriptions feature is not on your plan. The card is not rendered at all in that case.
The switch is visible but disabled
You are missing the Manage Videos permission, or the video is under a distribution policy that forces paid access and therefore does not allow the public state to be selected.
One video lost its settings after a project save
Saving the project's Video Options replaces the options on every published video in that project. Re-apply the per-video settings on that video's Options tab.
Nobody can play the video, including subscribers
The video requires login but is not covered by a plan. Add it to a plan's access scope under Monetization → Plans & Payments.
