Custom Video Order in Your Channel

You can manually control the exact order in which videos appear in your channel. This is useful when you want to arrange videos in a specific sequence, such as for course modules or a curated playlist.

Before You Start

  • The Manage Channels permission on your dashboard user. Without it the channel list shows "Channel access restricted" and you never reach the editor.
  • A saved channel. If you have not created one yet, follow How to Create Video Channels first.
  • The videos you want to arrange, uploaded into a project. The Manual picker browses one project at a time.

Put a Section into Manual Mode

  1. Log in to your DynTube dashboard.
  2. In the sidebar, expand More tools and select Legacy Channels. This is the channel list at /channels.
  3. Select the channel you want to arrange. The editor opens at /channels/{id}/edit.
  4. Open the Advanced tab.
  5. Under Advanced Sections, select the header of the section you want to hand-pick so that it expands. If the channel has no sections yet, select Add Section first.
  6. In that section's Source Mode row, select Manual. The three modes — Projects, Keywords and Manual — are exclusive: choosing one clears the settings belonging to the others.

Select Videos in the Order You Want

Manual mode shows two panels side by side: Project videos on the left, Selected videos on the right.

  1. Use Select Project at the top of the section to choose the project holding your videos. Until you pick one, the left panel reads "Select a project to browse and add more videos."
  2. The left panel loads that project's videos. Use the "Search videos in this project..." box to narrow the list by title.
  3. Select Add on the first video you want to appear. It moves into the Selected videos panel and its button changes to a greyed-out Added, so you cannot add the same video twice.
  4. Add the rest of your videos one at a time, in the order you want them to appear. Each new video is appended to the bottom of the Selected videos list — that list, top to bottom, is the order you are building.
  5. Select Remove beside any video in the Selected videos panel to take it out again.

Save and Verify the Result

  1. Check the section header now reads "Manual section" rather than "Dynamic section enabled". A section switches to manual as soon as it holds at least one hand-picked video.
  2. Select Save Changes at the top of the page. A successful save shows "Channel updated successfully" and returns you to the channel list at /channels.
  3. Reopen the channel, return to the Advanced tab and expand the section. Your Selected videos list should come back with the same videos in the same order.
  4. Open the Embed tab and select Open beside the Share URL, or use Copy live URL from the channel's row menu, to load the channel itself.
  5. Confirm the section lists the videos you picked, in the order you picked them. If the order differs, check the section's Sort Order under Results Settings — a section that also carries a sort field is being ordered by that field. Set it back to Default (Recently Added) and save again.

Current Manual-Ordering Behavior

  • There is no drag-and-drop for the selected videos. Reordering means removing and re-adding in the desired sequence.
  • Changing the project clears the whole selection. If you pick a different project in Select Project, every hand-picked video is dropped and you start the list again, so finish one project before switching.
  • One project at a time is browsable. The picker loads videos for the selected project only, so a section cannot be built from two projects in one pass.
  • The left panel loads up to 200 videos from the project in a single request. In a larger project, videos beyond that are not offered — narrow the list with the search box, or move the video into a smaller project.
  • A hand-picked section stops being dynamic. Newly uploaded videos never join it on their own; you must open the channel and add them.
  • Switching the section to the Projects or Keywords source mode discards the hand-picked list. The videos are not remembered if you switch back, so re-select them.
  • Hand-picking is per section, not per channel. Each section you want arranged by hand needs its own Manual source mode and its own list.
  • Manual mode is not offered in the create page's Simple mode. Switch to Advanced Mode while creating, or save the channel first and hand-pick from the editor.

Troubleshooting

Messages the channel editor can show while hand-picking, and what they mean
