Track Video Viewers with Customer IDs

Entitled DynTube accounts can associate supported player analytics with a customer identifier supplied by your application. This turns aggregate viewing into customer-level reporting for workflows such as course progress, onboarding, training, and account engagement.

Enable custom user analytics

  1. Open Dashboard → Settings → Global → Custom User Tracking.
  2. Confirm the feature is included for the account.
  3. Enable custom user analytics and save.
  4. Use the supported player embed integration to provide a customUserId for the authenticated viewer.
  5. Play a test video and verify the customer appears in the intended analytics report after processing.

Choose a safe identifier

Prefer an opaque, stable identifier from your own application rather than an email address in a visible page URL. Keep the mapping to customer details in your trusted system. If your business workflow uses email, confirm consent, privacy terms, retention, and access before sending it.

Bind identity at playback time

Resolve the identifier from the authenticated server-side session and pass it through the current documented player integration. Do not accept an arbitrary customer ID from an untrusted query string and treat it as verified identity. On shared or cached pages, make sure one viewer's value cannot be rendered for another.

Validate the report

  • The known test customer is attached to the correct video and viewing session.
  • Anonymous playback remains separate from identified viewing.
  • Two signed-in customers do not share the same identifier.
  • Logout or account switching updates the value before another playback.
  • Exports and team permissions expose customer-level data only to authorized staff.

Understand the integration boundary

The supported DynTube player and embed workflow emits the analytics events used by the platform. A third-party or native player does not automatically emit the same event and customer context. Confirm a documented custom-player contract before expecting equivalent reports.
