Move videos to a different project
Moving a video changes which project owns it. It is a bulk action in the Video Library: select the videos, choose a destination video project, confirm, and the videos are reassigned. Nothing about the video is re-encoded or re-uploaded — but the project it now belongs to is the project whose settings apply to it.

Before you start
- You need the Manage Videos permission. Without it the selection controls and the Move to Project button are not offered at all.
- The destination must be a video project. Audio projects are never offered as a target, and the server refuses one even if the request is made another way.
- The destination must belong to the same account. A project outside your account is rejected.
- Know what the destination project is configured to do, because those settings start applying to the video once it is there.
Move videos
- Open Video Library. You can work from the full video list or from inside a single project — both offer the same action.
- Select the videos you want to move. A selection banner appears showing how many are selected, with Select All and Deselect All alongside it.
- Choose Move to Project in that banner.
- In the dialog, search for and pick the destination project. The picker only lists video projects.
- Choose Move Videos.
On success you get a confirmation showing how many videos were moved, the selection is cleared, and the list reloads so the videos appear under their new project. If the move fails you are told so and nothing is changed — the whole selection is written in one operation, not one video at a time.
What the move changes
The move rewrites which project a video belongs to, and the time it was last updated. The video keeps its own identity — the same video, the same keys, the same embed and the same processed outputs. What changes is the set of project-level settings it now inherits.
| Aspect | Effect of moving |
|---|---|
| Project ownership | Reassigned to the destination project. The video is listed under it from that point on. |
| Playback and embed identity | Unchanged. Existing embeds keep working; you do not have to re-copy embed code. |
| Processed outputs | Unchanged. Moving does not re-encode, re-transcode or re-upload anything, and does not re-run processing. |
| Settings captured at upload | Unchanged. Choices such as whether the original file was retained were fixed when the video was uploaded and are not revisited by a move. |
| Domain and country restrictions | Can change. Where the destination project overrides them, its own allowed domains and country rules apply instead of the account defaults. |
| Other project-level settings | Can change. Player configuration and access rules that a project defines apply to the videos in it. |
Why move videos
- Apply different settings: put videos under a project whose player, encoding and access configuration is the one you want for them.
- Reorganise: group related videos together as your library grows.
- Change who can reach them: projects carry their own restriction overrides.
If the move does not work
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No selection checkboxes, or no Move to Project button | Your access does not include managing videos. | Ask an account owner for the Manage Videos permission. |
| The project you want is not in the picker | It is not a video project, or it is not in this account. | Create or use a video project in the same account as the videos. |
| Move Videos stays unavailable | No destination project has been picked yet. | Select a project in the dialog first. |
| The move is refused | The destination cannot hold videos, or it did not resolve within your account. | Pick a different video project and try again. |
| The video plays in the dashboard but not on your site after the move | The destination project applies different domain restrictions. | Check the destination project’s restriction settings against the pages you embed on. |
