How to compare
Video Hosting Platform Comparison
Choose a video platform by matching its strongest workflow to the job your content must do. Compare the real pricing dimensions, required access controls, analytics depth and developer workflow, then test the final two options on your own pages.
Start here
Start with the workload, then compare the plans
Four habits that make the difference between a decision and a purchase you regret.
- Start from your trigger, not from a feature list. A criterion that does not apply to you should not influence the outcome, however prominently it is presented.
- Check each vendor’s current source for pricing and packaging. Compare monthly and annual billing on the same cadence, and include overage rates and required add-ons.
- Treat an unanswered question as unanswered. A page that is silent about a capability has not proved the capability is missing, and a page that lists it has not proved it is included on the plan you would buy.
- Get the deciding two or three in writing, from whichever vendor you choose. Anything that determines whether the purchase works belongs in an email, not in a marketing page's small print.
Buyer criteria
The criteria that usually decide it
Vendor-neutral. Score your own case against each, then take the same list to every vendor including us.
- Where the video is published
- Whether it lives on a destination the vendor runs or inside pages, products and apps you own. This decides more downstream than any feature.
- On DynTube — DynTube delivers into surfaces you publish; the page around the player is yours. If a hosted destination is what you need, that is a reason to weigh a different kind of product.
- Access and protection
- Which gate the material genuinely needs, and whether the plan you would buy includes it.
- On DynTube — Origin rules are evaluated per playback request but are unrestricted when the allowlist is empty or an exemption applies. Encryption is an account entitlement plus a per-project setting, applied at processing time and never retroactively. Managed private links can carry an expiry or a play limit and be revoked. None of it prevents downloading, copying or screen recording.
- What the reporting can tell you
- Whether you need per-viewer behaviour or aggregate performance, and whether anyone will act on the difference.
- On DynTube — Aggregate engagement is available by default. Plus and larger plans support per-user dashboard reporting when your embed supplies the user ID.
- How the plan is priced
- Which dimensions grow with your usage, and what happens in a month that runs hot.
- On DynTube — Bands are shaped by storage and monthly delivery, with current figures and per-plan inclusions on the pricing page rather than restated here.
- Player, branding and workflow control
- How much of the viewing experience is yours, and whether the workflow can be driven from your own code.
- On DynTube — Player configuration and branding are plan- and configuration-dependent. The v2 API is documented in our developer reference, with availability scoped by plan, permission and environment.
Verification workflow
How to check a vendor's answer
Five steps that work on any vendor, and that we would rather you ran on us than skipped.
- 01
Write down the two or three that decide it
- 02
Confirm the current plan at the source
- 03
Check the deciding capability against the specific plan
- 04
Trial it with your own material
- 05
Get the answer in writing before you commit
Common questions
Comparing platforms
Answered without a verdict.
Which video hosting platform is best?
For video embedded on your own pages with protected playback and an API workflow, DynTube is built around that job. Other platforms can be stronger for discovery, live-event production, marketing automation, sales outreach or advertising-led publishing. Match the platform shape to the primary job.
Where can I compare specific platforms?
Use the comparison hub or the direct DynTube comparisons for Vimeo, Wistia, SproutVideo, Brightcove, Bunny Stream, Dacast, JW Player and Vidyard. Each focuses on the pricing and workflow differences relevant to that alternative search.
How should I compare security and access controls?
Compare mechanisms rather than labels, and always against the specific plan. Ask each vendor which control is included at your tier, what it actually does, what it explicitly does not do, and whether it applies to material already in the library or only to new uploads. On our side, encryption is entitlement-gated and applies only from the point it is switched on, origin rules are unrestricted when the allowlist is empty, and nothing prevents screen recording. Expect that level of specificity from whoever you buy from.
How should I compare pricing?
Work out what you store and deliver in a busy month, how many teammates need access and which paid add-ons are required. Compare the same workload and billing cadence, then confirm the final amount on each vendor’s current pricing page. DynTube’s current bands and custom estimator are linked below.
Put this on your own pages, under your own rules
Score the criteria against your own case, verify each vendor's answer at the plan you would buy, and trial the deciding capability on your own material.
