Edge delivery and what it changes for your viewers
Network distance and regional coverage can influence playback, but they are not the only factors: viewer connectivity, bitrate, rendition availability and the selected plan all matter. Confirm the coverage for the countries you serve before choosing a plan.
The mechanism
What edge delivery actually does
A delivery layer serves playlists and media segments without sending every playback request back to the storage origin. The effective path is resolved from the project region, plan, account configuration and deployment.
Storage and delivery are separate
The storage region selected for a project is not a promise that every viewer connects to that location. Playback uses a delivery host resolved for the project and account.
Distance is one input
Network distance can affect round trips, but startup and rebuffering also depend on the viewer connection, bitrate, device, player state and whether a suitable rendition exists.
Works with available renditions
For uploaded video with multiple HLS renditions, the player can change quality as the observed connection changes. Edge delivery does not create a rendition ladder by itself.
Live is planned separately
DynTube live sends the single quality contributed by your encoder rather than generating an adaptive ladder. A live event therefore needs its own bitrate, audience and delivery calculation.
Choose coverage from the audience
Different audience shapes need different checks
A region list only becomes useful when it is compared with where and when your viewers actually watch.
- Audience concentrated in one country
- Most playback follows one predictable network geography.
- On DynTube — Ask whether the plan covers that audience well, then test from the country and access networks your customers actually use.
- Customers spread across continents
- A narrower regional plan can create uneven results across the audience.
- On DynTube — Prefer the broader plan shape and verify the countries that matter rather than treating a general coverage label as proof.
- A scheduled launch or live event
- Many viewers arrive at the same time and the encoder bitrate fixes live delivery per viewer.
- On DynTube — Estimate the peak audience separately, confirm the live plan and run a rehearsal from representative viewer locations.
- Private internal library
- Viewer geography may be limited to offices, a workforce region or a known VPN path.
- On DynTube — Price and test for that actual footprint; a narrower plan may fit when the audience really is concentrated.
Coverage
Coverage is a property of the plan, not of the page
Not every plan shape covers the same regions. Some are deliberately narrower, which can be a reasonable trade when your audience sits in one place and a poor one when it does not.
Because coverage varies by plan and can change, use the current plan record and a written confirmation for any location that decides the purchase. Then validate with playback from the real audience path.
- Read the plan you are considering on the pricing page — the cards render the current billing catalogue.
- Ask which regions the plan covers, naming the countries your audience is actually in, and get the answer in writing before a coverage-sensitive purchase.
- Upload a representative video at the quality you intend to publish and test on the networks and devices your audience uses.
- For live, rehearse the full encoder-to-viewer path at the chosen bitrate; the on-demand rendition behavior does not apply.
If your audience is concentrated somewhere that needs specific treatment, that is a custom plan conversation rather than a band on the standard list.
Edge delivery questions
Regional video delivery FAQs
Can I choose a storage region?
A project is created with a region available to the account and plan. That selection governs storage placement, while the playback delivery host is resolved from project, plan, account and deployment configuration.
Does DynTube guarantee every viewer a nearby edge?
No proximity or latency guarantee is made on this page. Regional coverage matters, but real playback also depends on network routing, connection quality, bitrate, device and the renditions available for the video.
When can a narrower regional plan make sense?
When the audience is genuinely concentrated near the plan coverage and is unlikely to expand. Compare the current offer with a standard plan and test the actual viewer countries before choosing.
Is edge delivery the same as adaptive bitrate streaming?
No. Delivery moves playlists and segments to viewers. Adaptive playback chooses among renditions that processing already created. Live streaming uses the encoder quality supplied and does not gain an on-demand quality ladder from the edge.
How should I verify coverage before buying?
List the countries that matter, ask for the specific plan coverage in writing, then run representative playback tests. For scheduled live video, rehearse at the intended bitrate and audience path.
Match the plan to the audience, then test the path
Tell us the countries that matter and whether the workload is on-demand or live, confirm the offered coverage, and verify it with representative playback.
