Live recording

Live Stream Recording for Replay and Reuse

A broadcast that goes well is worth more than the hour it ran for — but only if it still exists tomorrow. Switch recording on for the stream, name the video project it belongs to, and each completed segment is uploaded there as a library video to reuse once it is ready.

  • Opt in per stream, on a plan that includes recording
  • You name the destination video project before you go live
  • Each completed recording segment arrives there as a library video

The broadcast, afterwards

The problem

Turn a live broadcast into reusable video

Record an eligible stream into your chosen project, then publish the resulting library video for replay, training or edited follow-up content.

A recorded broadcast can keep serving the audience after the live event: share it with people who missed it, place it behind your usual access flow or reuse selected moments in future content.

  • Enable recording for each stream before the broadcast you want to preserve.
  • The result is a video in your library, not a file to chase or re-upload by hand.
  • Once the video is ready in the library, you decide what it is called, who can watch it and where it appears.

Setup

What recording needs from you first

Two switches and one destination. All three are set before anyone is watching.

A plan that includes recordingEntitlement
Recording is plan-gated, and your account's entitlement is rechecked before each upload — not only when you switch the option on.
Recording enabled on that streamPer stream
Enable recording on the stream before the broadcast when you want that event captured into the video library.
An eligible destination projectWhere it lands
Pick the video project the recording belongs to: published and active, in the same DynTube account, in the same region as the stream, and able to hold video.

Getting started

What the first hour looks like

  1. 01

Check that your plan covers recording

Start here rather than at the encoder, because the entitlement decides whether anything can be uploaded at all.

  2. 02

Switch recording on for the stream

On that stream, before the broadcast. This is the step that is not retroactive.

  3. 03

    Name the destination video project

Published and active, same account, same region as the stream, able to hold video.

  4. 04

Broadcast, and let the segments arrive

Run the event exactly as you would without recording. The stream is captured as recording segments, and each one is uploaded to that project once it has completed.

What you get back

One broadcast, one or more library videos

Recording gives you ordinary videos in an ordinary project. Plan for that shape rather than for a single finished file.

Segments become videosThe result
Each completed recording segment is uploaded on its own and becomes one video library item, so a recorded broadcast may create one or more videos in the destination project.
Reuse is yours to directOnce ready
When the resulting video is available in the library you can rename, embed, restrict or remove it through the same controls you already use for the rest of that project.
Belt and braces for the events that matterOptional
For business-critical events, keep an encoder-side local recording alongside the platform recording as an additional recovery copy.

Questions

Live recording questions

Does every stream record automatically?

No. Recording is opt-in for each stream and depends on your plan, so a broadcast that ran without it enabled produced no recording. There is no way to turn it on afterwards.

Where is the recording saved?

In the video project you named when you enabled recording — as video library items, one for each completed recording segment, so a broadcast may produce more than one. Both the project and your entitlement are rechecked before each upload.

Which plan is required?

Recording is plan-gated, so confirm your plan includes it before the event rather than after. Your entitlement is checked again at upload time, which is why a plan change between enabling recording and broadcasting matters.

When can the replay be used?

Each completed recording segment is uploaded to the destination project as a library video. Once it appears in the library, set its title, access and placement and use it like any other uploaded video. Confirm availability in the project before announcing the replay.

Keep the broadcast that went well

Switch recording on, name the project, and reuse what you recorded.
